It is clear from listening to the speeches this afternoon that the Government still does not get it. The Taoiseach essentially listed out all the Government's so-called achievements and told people how good it really is.

You did. The Government is trying to get a message across to people that it has done so much for them. The reality is that it has not been listening. That is really clear. Last week was desperately difficult for the country. I do not think anyone would think that what happened was an easy thing to resolve. The people I spoke to in the constituency that I and the Tánaiste represent were deeply conflicted because many of them did not agree with the blockades or with people being blocked from attending appointments. They did not necessarily agree or align themselves with some of the people who were leading the protests. However, they could understand why those people were doing it. They could understand why those people were doing it, why they had left their homes and why they were living out of their tractors and trailers on O'Connell Street and could empathise with them because they are also living through it. They know how difficult it is. The people I spoke to in County Wicklow were not necessarily talking about fuel costs; they were talking about disability services, education and childcare. they talked about their lived experience and the difficulties they are facing with energy and food costs. Those costs are piling up. The reality is that the strikes and protests last week were not necessarily just about fuel. They were about a Government that has frittered away billions, that has not listened and that is leaving huge numbers of people struggling to keep their heads above water.
