In the HSE Capital Plan 2026, a new ten-bed specialist community mental health unit has been included in the plan for Wexford, which is more than welcome. Since the closure of St. Senan's acute mental health beds in 2009, Sinn Féin representatives across the county and I have campaigned for their replacement, which was promised by the Minister for Health at that time. In fairness, the Tánaiste visited Wexford last week and stated that the lack of 24-7 psychiatric care in Wexford is a major concern. I come from the old school - if you cannot see it or touch it, then it does not exist. When can the people of Wexford expect to see these 24-7 acute beds in operation? Will it be within a five-year period, a ten-year period, or more? We can only speculate on how many lives would have been saved over those 27 years if that promise had been honoured in the first place.
