Road safety is an issue in every part of the country. In recent weeks and today, we heard of yet more tragedies. I welcome any measures that can be taken to make road safety better but I will not hold my breath. These are some examples from my constituency, Dublin South Central. Calm Crumlin Road was set up a few years ago because of the absolute danger zone that road is. Two years ago, a woman was tragically killed on her bicycle and two years later - recently in November - another accident almost identical to that one happened, so nothing is happening in that area to make it safe for people to use it. The absolute tragedy of the intertwined lives that were impacted by that woman's death was recently spoken about on "Liveline". This is echoed throughout the country. Dublin South Central has scramblers. I would love to say it is scrambler city but I am sitting beside Deputy McAuliffe and scramblers are in his area and many other areas. I was coming home from work the other day and going towards Christchurch Cathedral and there was a scrambler doing a wheelie all the way up the road. This was a few days after that poor young woman in Finglas was tragically killed by a scrambler. Scramblers are a mode of transport for many young and older people. I am glad we are putting measures in place now but it has taken the death of a young person for that to happen. My heart goes out to that young woman's family and friends and all who loved her. I am a cyclist and the mother of cyclists and my heart is in my mouth half of the time because of the absolute state of the cycling infrastructure in this city. Kilmainham Lane is one example. It is a two-way road but it is only wide enough for one car and cyclists often bear the brunt of that. St. Cillian's National School in Bluebell has been begging for road safety measures outside the school. They have still not been implemented. That is an accident waiting to happen.
